With our expert guides, you’ll hear first-hand police accounts of the city’s legendary history of drugs, prohibition, sex, and scandal. Step through the narrow alleys of Chinatown and the derelict dens of the Downtown Eastside to learn about crooked criminals and devious deeds that plagued the city over a century ago. From tales about infamous gangsters like Joe Celona and liquor barons like Jack Deighton to stories about the city’s booming brothel industry, you’ll be immersed in a fast-paced hotbed of corruption like no other. As Vancouver’s premier choice for historic walking tours for over 10 years, The Police Museum is the only place where you can see archived reports, photos, and artifacts straight from the source. Better yet, all tours come with free admission to the museum and its exhibits.’

JIM BYRNES BIRTHDAY BASH
The Rickshaw presents a birthday bash for legendary bluesman Jim Byrnes. With guests The Sojourners, Old.Soul.Rebel. Jim Byrnes was born in St. Louis, Missouri – that’s blues country. He grew up on the city’s north side. One of the neighbourhood bars had Ike and Tina Turner as the house band. As a teenager going to music clubs, he and his buddy were often the only white people in the place. “We never had any problems. We were too naïve, and had too much respect for the music and culture – they knew it, they could tell.”

TAIWAN FEST
The festive staple of toasting is ubiquitous and nearly every culture has its own variation on this gesture of goodwill. Whether it is the French “Santé”, German “Prost”, Scandinavian “Skål” or others, toasting and merrymaking go hand in hand. But at that split second when the glasses clink, a solitary sound amidst the festivities, one moment is suspended in the air.  “Kanpai, Japan!” is an exploration of these influences, connecting the island nations of Japan and Taiwan, and again with Canada.
