Conservation officers were called to an east Vancouver neighbourhood after a young bear was spotted this morning.

Vancouver police say the bear had meandered into the area of Renfrew and East Hastings Streets at about 6 am.

They say the bear climbed a tree when it saw police but conservation officers soon arrived and managed to tranquilize the animal.

Police say the young bear will be safely relocated outside of the city.
