Vancouver by-election to be held on October 14th, NDP government to decide if VSB trustees to be replaced at the same time


Vancouver City Council will be appointing the Chief Election Officer responsible for planning out the upcoming by-election.

The primary role of the Officer is to implement the by-election, ensure the integrity of the voting process and to encourage democratic participation.

Via a release from the City of Vancouver, the by-election will likely take place on October 14th.

The provincial government must notify the City its plan to hold a Vancouver School Board by-election for school Trustees by August 4th.

Proposed dates leading up to by-election

The nomination period for potential candidates will take place from August 29th to September 8th.

Advanced voting will take place from October 4th to October 10th, between 8 am to 8 pm at City Hall.

General voting day is scheduled for October 14th, with around 50 polling stations located throughout the city, including schools, community centres, City Hall and a church.

In order to vote in the Vancouver by-election, you must be 18-years-old or older on general voting day, be a Canadian citizen, have lived in BC for at least six months prior to the election, and have lived in Vancouver for at least 30 days before voting day.
