Ronald McDonald House B.C. and Yukon

Of the more than 80,000 families who visit BC Children’s Hospital every year, 68% of them live outside of Vancouver and most have no place to stay while their child receives life-saving medical care. That’s where Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon (RMH BC) comes in.
RMH BC cares for families of children whose health needs take them far from home and keeps families together, providing comfort, compassion, and a sense of community when they need it most. 2,000 families can stay with us each year in our 73-bedroom House, just steps away from the hospital. Families stay with us anywhere from one night to over a year, and staying at the House helps to relieve the financial and emotional burdens of being away from home.
At the House, families stay together in comfortable rooms and have access to state-of-the-art kitchens, a fitness centre, and several welcoming indoor and outdoor play spaces. Volunteer-run programs help families to cope and include meals, music and art therapy, yoga, LEGO Robotics, cooking for kids, movie nights, dog therapy and more. Most importantly, our guests can enjoy special everyday moments together as a family, from hockey games to bedtime stories.
RMH BC also serves local families through the Ronald McDonald Family Room, a house within the hospital for families with children being treated at Surrey Memorial Hospital. In the Family Room, families can eat a meal, do laundry, relax in the living room or rest in one of our four overnight sleeping rooms. In 2016, the Ronald McDonald Family Room had more than 14,000 visits from grateful families.
Over 270 volunteers help to run the House and Family Room, and RMH BC depends on generous community support to keep families close when it matters most.
