Langley Drug Section has taken over the conduct of the investigation into the fiery explosion in Aldergrove early this morning.

Police and fire were called to the townhouse complex in the 27100 block of 31 A Avenue in Langley shortly after midnight. Three units were still on fire on arrival and two men were found in the middle garage suffering from severe burns.  Firefighters also rescued several pets, including five cats, after ensuring all other residents were clear of the blaze.

One of the men was transported by air and the other by ground ambulance.  No other injuries were reported.

Langley Client Support & Victim Services also provided support and assistance to the families from all three residences displaced by the fire.

As of now police wait for a structural engineer to attend and determine if entry onto the site is safe. The two adjacent units were both heavily engulfed by the fire.

Police believe there may have been a butane extraction site established in the center garage as the investigation continues
