Second major tragedy to hit Abbotsford Police – Deputy Chief loses son to car crash

The Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed the son of Deputy Chief Mike Serr has died in a car crash.

Reports indicate the crash happened early Monday morning after 2am when 19-year-old Aiden Serr was driving alone on Lougheed Highway near Laity Street. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The Abbotsford Police Department says they are supporting the family in every way they can during this difficult time.

“The APD family continues to be Strong, as we support each other through the tragic events that have occurred over the past week.  We are grateful for the out pouring of support from the Community,” says Constable Paul Walker in a written statement.

Serr’s death came the same day a candlelight vigil was held to honour the life of slain Abbotsford Police Constable John Davidson at Mount Lehman Centre. Davidson was shot and killed while responding to reports of a car theft and shots fired in the parking lot of a shopping centre on Mount Lehman Road. He had served as a police officer for 24 years.

Aiden’s family is asking for privacy during this time.
