Are more teens ditching the traditional ‘boy – girl’ gender identification?

A new study out of the United States shows that more and more teens are beginning to identify as gender nonconforming. Meaning, they are choosing to stay away from the traditional ‘boy-girl ‘ gender identity.

Why the increasing numbers? What’s the role of the society in this trend? How does a parent provide all the necessary support for a kid who has just informed you about their gender decision?

Although there are no clear-cut answers, however,  parents, friends and family could begin by adopting the new preferred name and pronoun.

“Just the fact that you care and have a moment of realization matters a lot to the person that you are trying to understand,” said Michele Kambolis, child and family therapist and regular on the Mid Days show with Jody Vance.
