This week was a busy one for Blockbusters, there were hits and some misses.
Film Critic, Jim Slotek with Original-Cin.ca suggestions A Wrinkle in Time if you are seeking a movie with a message. The popular film review site gives Oprah and her Angel’s an A-, to quote:
“Ava DuVernay’s beautiful and visually imaginative A Wrinkle In Time is a magical mystery tour for teenage girls. It’s a female empowerment movie that says love triumphs over evil and light trumps darkness. It says that the many teenage girls who believe they’re not good enough can find their strength and beauty, even through their flaws.”
Gringo on the other hand is perfect if you are in need of a laugh or two but no much more. Jim writes, “Happily, Gringo moves at a fast-enough pace to distract you from a plot that, for the most part, makes no sense. There are car chases, car crashes (Harold manages to crawl out of the wreckage of more than one), gun battles and gruesome interludes. And it all takes place in the heat of Mexico, which isn’t a bad thing to be watching as our brutal winter crawls to a close.”
Finally, The Hurricane Heist is a new thriller directed by Rob Cohen of Fast and The Furious and xXx with Vin Diesel. The Hurricane Heist features Toby Kebbell and Maggie Grace. Never heard of either? Toby, played Koba in War for the Planet of the Apes and Maggie has appeared in Lost and Californication.
